His fascination with the planes and tankers that pass by fuels his imagination. His solace lies in aimless running, finding purpose in the simplicity of movement. This 1984 film from director Amir Naderi is often cited as the beginning of the post-revolutionary Iranian New Wave and its first masterpiece.

Amir Naderi
Amir Naderi, born in Abadan, Iran, made his directorial debut with "Goodbye, Friend" in 1971. He achieved international acclaim with cinema classics like "The Runner" (1985) and "Water, Wind, Dust" (1989), the former being praised as one of the most influential films of the past quarter century by critics. Naderi's films have premiered at esteemed events, including the Film Society of Lincoln Center/MoMA's New Directors/New Films series, as well as the Venice, Cannes, Tribeca, and Sundance Film Festivals.
